The government said that individuals cannot select and inoculate a new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) vaccine from a specific pharmaceutical company.
Jung Eun-kyung, head of the Central Defense Countermeasures Headquarters, said at the Corona 19 regular briefing on the 11th, “It will be difficult to provide individuals with the option to choose a vaccine.” He said, “Because we have to consider the timing of vaccine introduction and the priority of the target audience.”
Korea has signed a pre-purchase agreement for the amount of vaccines equivalent to 56 million people through multinational corporations such as AstraZeneca, Modena, Pfizer, and Janssen through the multi-national alliance’COVAX facility’. Of these, Modena and Pfizer vaccines have been approved for use by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The Janssen vaccine will be approved for use in the United States as early as this month. In the UK, Pfizer, Modena, and AstraZeneca vaccines have been approved, and the AstraZeneca vaccine is undergoing a domestic approval process.
Jung also said, “Unless re-vaccination or additional vaccination is decided for public health reasons, it will be difficult to admit additional free vaccination.” This means that unless there is a problem with the effectiveness of the vaccine, you will have to pay for the booster dose.
President Moon Jae-in said in a New Year’s address released this morning that free vaccinations for all citizens will begin in February.
The government plans to prepare a specific vaccination plan in January and then sequentially provide one free vaccination for all citizens from February.
