Ulsan Gyeongja District launches’hydrogen industry-centered innovation growth base’

[세종=뉴스핌] Reporter Eun-Seok Lim = The government fosters a free economic zone as a base for new global industries. To this end, core strategic industries for each free economic zone are selected to provide pre-sale for domestic companies as well as foreign-invested companies under construction cost, allow private contracts, and preferential support for local investment subsidies.

According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on the 14th, Minister of Industry Seong Yun-mo attended the opening ceremony for the Ulsan Free Economic Zone Authority to proclaim its vision to leap into a new industrial hub centered on the hydrogen industry.

Minister Sung said in a congratulatory remark, “The Ulsan Free Economic Zone Authority plays a central role in regional development and job creation by fostering the hydrogen industry as a new industry in the future through the convergence and integration of the hydrogen sector with the main industries such as automobiles, shipbuilding and petrochemicals, which are the strengths of Ulsan. “Please do it.”

The government plans to promote and support policies with a sense of speed so that the’Free Economic Zone Innovation Strategy 2.0′ announced in October last year to make the Free Economic Zone a base for a new global industry.

By selecting core strategic industries for each free economic zone, incentives will be expanded not only for foreign-invested companies but also for domestic residents, such as pre-sale under the construction cost, private contracts allowed, and preferential rates of local investment subsidies.

A total of 4.2 billion won will be invested in the construction of infrastructure such as access roads and water supply facilities necessary for the development of the free economic zone, as well as the establishment of an innovative growth support program for tenant companies.

In order for the Free Economic Zone to establish itself as a regulatory innovation institution and promote investment in new industries, regulatory innovation projects, discovery of participating companies, and support for empirical special case consulting will also be promoted.

The Ministry of Industry is planning to create a hydrogen economy ecosystem by designating a hydrogen specialized company and expanding green hydrogen demonstrations in accordance with the enforcement of the’Hydrogen Act’ in February this year regarding the hydrogen-leading cities pursued by the Ulsan Free Economic Zone.

The Ulsan Free Economic Zone Authority held the’Ulsan Free Economic Zone Innovation Ecosystem Construction Business Agreement Ceremony’ on the occasion of the opening ceremony. The heads of eight organizations, including the Ministry of Industry and Ulsan Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) participated in the agreement ceremony, and decided to make joint efforts to attract leading companies in the hydrogen industry and strengthen corporate support.

Meanwhile, after the opening ceremony, Minister Sung Yun-mo visited the’Hydrogen Fuel Cell Demonstration Center’ to encourage researchers and had time to listen to the difficulties of the site and the opinions of the tenant companies.
