The second decision of the Supreme Court against former President Park Geun-hye, who was handed over to the trial in the case of repayment of the Kukjeong Nongdan and the National Intelligence Service’s special activity expenses, will come out on the 14th. If the sentence is confirmed in the re-appeal on that day, former President Park will end the court dispute about three years and nine months after being prosecuted in April 2017.

According to the Supreme Court on the 1st, the third division of the Supreme Court (Presidential Judge Roh Tae-ak) will hold a reconsideration hearing on the case of former President Park’s charges of bribery under the Aggravated Punishment Act for certain crimes on the morning of the 14th.

In July last year, former President Park was sentenced to 20 years in prison, 18 billion won in fine, and 3.5 billion won in additional fines at a repatriation trial for the destruction of the case of special activity expenses between the National Intelligence Service and the National Intelligence Service.

Specifically, under the Certain Crimes Weighted Penalty Act, a fine of 18 billion won in 15 years imprisonment for bribery charges, and 5 years imprisonment and 3.5 billion won in additional fines for other charges such as ex officio abuse.

This was significantly reduced compared to the 30-year imprisonment, 20 billion won in fine, and 2.7 billion won in additional fines, which were previously sentenced by the appeal court before destruction and repatriation.

The fact that the Supreme Court returned the case to the Seoul High Court and judged the crime of coercion as innocent acted as a factor of mitigation. The revocation and reconciliation trial section explained that “Most of the charges of extortion by Park became innocent, and part of the blacklist in the cultural world became innocent.”

Former President Park, along with Seo-won Choi, is accused of abusing his authority, forcing contributions from large corporations to the Mir and K Sports Foundation, and receiving a bribe from Samsung to support Jung Yoo-ra’s horseback riding. During his tenure, he was also tried on charges of receiving special expenses from the chiefs of the National Intelligence Service.
