The brother of former MBC President Jae-cheol Kim, who was sentenced to imprisonment for violating the labor union law while in office as the president of MBC, has been confirmed as the lower one.
The first part of the Supreme Court dismissed the appeals of both prosecutors and former president Kim on the 11th and confirmed the lower court. In August of last year, the Seoul High Court dismissed the appeal of former President Kim and sentenced him to imprisonment (one year and six months in prison, three years probation, and 160 hours of social service) in the same manner as the first trial.
Former President Kim was charged with blocking the appearance of celebrities on the’blacklist’ including broadcasters Kim Yeo-jin and Kim Mi-hwa after receiving the’MBC normalization document’ from the National Intelligence Service of the MB government (violation of the National Intelligence Service Act, which regulates the crime of abuse of authority, etc.) It was handed over to trial in January 2018 along with the former chief of the National Intelligence Service.
In 2011, MBC PD Handbook PDs were also accused of interfering with broadcast production, such as taking personnel measures to departments that could not be involved in the production. The prosecution asked former president Kim for four years in prison and three years ineligibility, but the first trial court refused to accept it.
The Seoul Central District Court, which was in charge of the first trial, convicted only violations of the Labor Union and Labor Relations Adjustment Act in February of last year, accused by former President Kim.
The Judge said that it did not fall under the authority of the NIS for an NIS employee to collaborate with the broadcasting company’s management and ask the program production staff to take unfair personnel action or change the broadcast host.
However, the alleged violation of the union law was convicted, such as the fact that former president Kim excluded members of the MBC headquarters of the national media union from the reporting and production sites and induce withdrawal from the union through personnel evaluation.
In a statement on the 12th, the MBC headquarters of the national media union said, “Kim Jae-cheol has been confirmed as a union destroyer.”

“Compared to Kim Jae-cheol’s actions and crimes, which are consistent with excuses rather than reflecting on the wrongdoings of the scapegoat of the ruling regime, the Supreme Court’s final ruling remains in many ways. Judgment is contrary to common sense and justice.”
MBC Headquarters, a media union, said to former MBC presidents such as Kim Jae-cheol, Ahn Kwang-han, and Kim Jang-gyeom. Thus, broadcasting independence and fair broadcasting were damaged. We have already impeached them and judged them. What remains is a reasonable legal condemnation for their iniquity,” he stressed.
Former MBC president Kim Jae-cheol has been running the YouTube channel’Kim Jae-cheol’s Faster’ until recently. Through this YouTube content, “The Reason I Miss the Park Jeong-hee era”, he said, “Compared to 1961 (while President Park Chung-hee was in office), exports increased 400 times in 16 years. How is the Moon Jae-in regime now? I just keep owing it and spreading it out. How long will you spread it?” he criticized the current regime. Three weeks ago, a video related to’Musical Park Jung-hee’ was also posted.
