A (56), former head of the Jeonbuk Headquarters of the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), made an extreme choice in his place of residence. This happened while the police were investigating the allegations of speculation by LH employees in the Gwangmyeong and Siheung new cities. The police said he was unrelated to the investigation, but attention is drawn to the background of his death.
According to the police and fire department on the 12th, Mr. A was found on a flowerbed in front of his apartment in Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, around 9:40 am on that day. He was taken to the hospital, but he died. At the time of discovery, Mr. A was in a state of cardiac arrest, and it is known that he committed himself from the 10th floor.
A resident who reported to 119 for the first time when he saw Mr. A collapsed said, “At first, I thought the furniture had fallen, but when I went there, people were collapsed.”
Mr. A served as the head of the Jeonbuk Headquarters for two years from 2018, and then worked as an expert committee member at LH for one year before retirement. It was found that he had been to work the day before. LH employees believe that when Mr. A was the head of the Jeonbuk Headquarters, the employees were known to have speculated on the planned new city, and felt a mental burden.
The police found a will in the form of a memo that appears to have been written by Mr. A in Mr. A’s residence. The contents of the will were not disclosed. A police official said, “Currently, the lawsuit is not the target of the LH speculation investigation by the Gyeonggi Southern Police Agency.” However, as Mr. A mentioned “responsibility” in his will, the possibility that he did not actively stop it even after knowing the facts of speculation by his subordinates at the time, or that Mr. A was directly or indirectly involved with them cannot be ruled out. It seems that the police said that “they plan to investigate the contents of Mr. A’s will” with this in mind. In addition, the police did not have any criminal charges due to the conduct of the closed circuit (CC) TV, but decided to perform an autopsy in consideration of the seriousness of the case.
