The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 3rd that it had reaffirmed Chinese President Xi Jinping’s will to visit Korea at a meeting with the foreign ministers of Korea and China.

In a press release released after meetings with Minister Eui-yong Eui and Wang Yi, an adjunct minister of foreign affairs in China in Xiamen, Fujian Province, China, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Foreign Affairs reported the summit and high-level exchanges between Korea and China. He said he had exchanged opinions on issues such as bilateral relations and the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

At the meeting, Minister Chung and Commissioner Wang decided to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation by activating various dialogues between Korea and China.

In particular, the Chinese side re-expressed President Xi’s will to visit Korea, and both sides agreed to actively communicate so that the situation of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) could be stabilized and conditions were met.

After the meeting, Minister Chung also expressed his will to reporters, saying, “We decided to promote President Xi’s visit to Korea as early as possible as soon as the Corona 19 situation stabilizes.”

The Minister and the Secretary also reaffirmed the need for continued cooperation between the three countries of Korea, China and Japan for the early holding of the Korea-China-Japan summit. In addition, the 2+2 talks for diplomatic and security consultations between Korea and China will be promoted within the first half of the year.

In addition, we agreed that strengthening practical cooperation in the fields of culture, economy, environment, and history is essential for the development of bilateral relations, and decided to pursue various cooperation efforts in each field.

In particular, Minister Chung called for more active cooperation from the Chinese side to promote cooperation in the field of cultural content. In response, Commissioner Wang replied that he was well aware of our interests and hoped that the two countries will continue to communicate. In fact, it is interpreted that only the principle stance was disclosed in the request for the release of the Korean Han-Ryeong (限韓令) on our side.

In addition, the two ministers exchanged opinions on the situation on the Korean Peninsula and agreed that they shared the goal of realizing the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and establishing a permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula. Accordingly, it has decided to continue to expand cooperation in the future to ensure stable management of the situation on the Korean Peninsula and to prepare conditions for progress in the peace process on the Korean Peninsula.
