The first trial of the suspected illegal merger of Samsung C&T by Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong, scheduled for this week, has been postponed.

This is because Vice-Chairman Lee, who had undergone emergency surgery last week, asked the court to change the deadline, saying that attendance was difficult.

The Seoul Central District Court issued an order to change the date to postpone the first trial of the suspected illegal merger of Samsung C&T, scheduled for the 25th, to the 22nd of the following month.

Earlier, Vice-Chairman Lee submitted an opinion requesting a change of the deadline with a medical certificate requesting three weeks of stability to the court, saying that it is difficult to attend this week’s trial because of the need for recovery after surgery.

Vice-Chairman Lee, who was imprisoned in Seoul detention center after being sentenced to two years and six months in jail at a repatriation trial for the destruction of Gukjeong Nongdan, underwent emergency surgery at Samsung Medical Center for’appendicitis’ on the 19th.

Appendicitis is a disease commonly called appendicitis.

11 defendants, including Vice-Chairman Lee, in the trial on the alleged illegal merger of Samsung C&T.

In the case of trials with multiple defendants, arguments may be separated, but the court explained that it was inappropriate to separate the vice-chairman and repeat the procedure separately from other defendants, considering the fact that it decided to change the trial date.

However, it is expected that postponing the deadline will not have a significant impact on the rapid trial proceedings.

The court will hold a trial every two weeks until May, and the trial will be held weekly from June.

At the time of preparation for the trial, the prosecution said it would apply for about 250 witnesses, but depending on the progress of the trial, the actual number of witnesses in court may be lower than this.
