The new unlock method Apple introduced to the iPhone is gaining great interest.

On the 2nd (Korean time), Apple released the latest version of the iPhone operating system (iOS), iOS 14.5 beta. It’s not an official update yet, so Apple doesn’t recommend it to general users, but this version adds a feature that will appeal to many iPhone users.

The added feature is the ability to unlock the lock screen using an Apple Watch if the user is wearing a mask. Until now, people who used iPhone models that used Face ID could unlock the lock screen by entering a password when wearing a mask.

To prepare, you need to upgrade your iPhone to iOS 14.5 beta and Apple Watch to watchOS 7.4 beta. After setting a password on the Apple Watch, check the iPhone Settings → Face ID & Passcode →’Unlock with Apple Watch’ item. If you turn off the lock screen while wearing a mask after setting, the Apple Watch will vibrate and unlock.

Unlocking with the Apple Watch is possible only if you are wearing a mask when Face ID recognizes it. In case of unwanted unlocking, you can lock it again by pressing the’Lock iPhone’ button that appears on the Apple Watch.

Some users have complained about the need for an Apple Watch as well as an iPhone for the new unlock method. Also, since unlocking is only supported after’Apple Watch 3′, a model that can update the watchOS to version 7, those who use older products cannot benefit.

In addition to this feature, iOS 14.5 supports the latest game controllers, and 5G support is added in the dual SIM function that allows two SIMs to be used.
