Participating companies announced that they would like to participate in the carbon neutral policy through the MOU and cooperate with each other in pursuing rational energy conversion for the common benefit of sustainable national economic development.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Minister Sung Yun-mo of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (Ministry of Industry) to encourage the energy industry to challenge carbon neutrality.

IEA (International Energy Agency) Secretary General Fatih Birol, who is called the World Energy President, also said in a video congratulatory speech, “I hope that the launch of the Energy Alliance will be a signal to further advance Korea’s carbon neutrality.” We will provide various support to achieve our carbon neutral goal.”

The’Energy Alliance’, which was launched this time, was born after a gathering of major private energy companies from the beginning of this year with the aim of jointly responding to related policies and contemplating business strategies in line with the global trend of decarbonization. In particular, this is the first time that Korean private energy companies have created a voluntary community regarding carbon neutrality.

The’Energy Alliance’ announced a plan to increase its member companies to energy companies that sympathize with the purpose of establishment even after its inauguration as a plan to secure public support and recognition of its role as a company for carbon neutrality in Korea.

After the agreement ceremony, the head of the Hyundai Economic Research Institute, Yoo-Seok Yoo, headed the theme of’Changes in the International Order in the Era of Carbon Neutrality and Our Response’, “As damage spreads from global warming around the world, the consensus that the damage needs to be solved spreads. “We have established a system,” he said. “Along with joining the international trend of’carbon neutrality’, including major developed countries, Korea is facing many challenges to implement it.”

In particular, Director Huh argued that in order to overcome these problems, “a new governance that takes into account the initiative of the private sector, building a resonant ecosystem in the energy industry, presenting a vision that considers both growth and environment, and actively participating in global problem solving” is necessary. .

He then emphasized that “The Energy Alliance should be a corporate council leading the carbon-neutral era in 2050 with a new governance vision and mission.”

In the following free discussion, the CEOs of participating companies recognized that carbon neutrality is a task given to companies in the times, and took time to discuss the detailed role of the’energy alliance’ in the future.
