The 2020 season’s professional soccer K-League players’ salary was revealed on the 29th. The annual salary released this time is based on the actual payment, including both the basic salary and various allowances (win allowance, draw allowance, participation allowance, attack point allowance and other options, etc.). Compared with the annual salary of the KBO League team announced in February, an interesting point is found. The average annual salary is higher in the K-League, but the high salary is much higher in the KBO League. First of all, the average annual salary of Korean players (432 players) belonging to the 11th K-League 1 team excluding the resident manager is 14142 million won (143.8 million won when excluding allowances). The total of foreign players (average annual salary of 46 people: 43.96 million won) increases to 19,91.71 million won. On the other hand, the average annual salary of Korean players (excluding 512 players and 46 new players) belonging to 10 KBO league teams this season was KRW 144.8 million. Unlike football, KBO League prohibits payment of victory allowances other than annual salary. The average annual salary of foreign players (30 people) is $204,666 (23,533 million won). The KBO League limits the annual salary of new foreign players to $1 million, so the average annual salary is not very high. In the case of professional football, when K-League 1 and K-League 2 (357 players in 10 teams) are combined, the average annual salary for domestic players falls to 133.1 billion won. This is because there are many citizen clubs.

The KBO league is far more frequent among high-paid employees (based on domestic players). There are a total of 14 people who have an annual salary of over 1 billion won. Five people are also over 2 billion won. However, in the K-League, there are only 5 people who have annual salaries of over 1 billion won. The highest annual salary is Jeonbuk Hyundai Kim Bo-kyung, who receives 1,358 million won. Next is Hyundai Hong Jeong-ho, Jeonbuk, with 1.26 billion won. The highest annual salary in the KBO League is Lotte Giants Lee Dae-ho (2.5 billion won). Yang Hyeon-jong (2.3 billion won, KIA Tigers) follows. There are only six KBO League annual salaries who receive more than Kim Bo-kyung. K-League annual salary inflation is also considered, but the fact that the average annual salary is low but the high salaries are high also means that the polarization of players within the league is as severe.

In terms of K-League clubs, Jeonbuk Hyundai (11.5 billion won) and Ulsan Hyundai (10.3 billion won) paid more than 10 billion won each as a base salary to Korean players. The total annual salary of the two clubs is two to three times that of the other clubs in the K League 1. There is a lot of difference between clubs. In the KBO League, there is no club with a total annual salary of more than 10 billion won. In the case of Jeonbuk Hyundai, the average base salary of domestic players (33) is a whopping 355.66 million. In the KBO League, NC Dinos (48 players) had the highest average annual salary of 165 million won. Lotte, excluding rookies and foreign players, with a total annual salary of 9,016 million won, excluding the annual salaries of Dae-ho Lee, A-Seop Son (2 billion won), and Byung-Hun Min (1.25 billion won), and paid 3.26 billion won to 49 people. The average annual salary was 6,653 million won. This figure shows the polarization of the KBO League salary within the team. By Kim Yang-hee, staff reporter [email protected]
