Reuters reported that the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has designated five Chinese companies, including Huawei, the world’s largest communication equipment company, as a threat to national security on the 12th (local time).
On this day, the FCC has made five companies, including Huawei, ZTE, Hytera, Hike Vision, and Dahwa, a company that poses a threat to national security under the’Safe and Reliable Communication Network Act’ enacted in 2019 to protect the U.S. communication network. It said that it is designated.
The law obliges the FCC to identify companies that produce and provide communications equipment and services that pose an unacceptable risk to the national security of the United States or to the security and safety of the United States.
Jessica Rosenworth, acting FCC chairman, said, “This list is a meaningful guide to ensuring that next-generation telecommunications networks are built across the U.S. to avoid repeating mistakes or using equipment and services that pose a threat to U.S. national security or the security and safety of the United States. I will provide.”
Prior to this, the FCC designated Huawei and ZTE as national security threats last year.
As a result, US companies that purchase equipment from these companies will not be able to access $8.3 billion in government funding.
In February this year, Huawei opposed the designation and filed an appeal to the US Appeals Court.
The U.S. administration’s sanctions targeting Chinese information technology (IT) companies, such as Huawei, which began as former President Donald Trump, continue in the Joe Biden administration.
Foreign media reported on the 11th that the Biden administration has implemented measures to tighten the already imposed export approval conditions in the form of restricting the supply of items that can be used in Huawei’s 5G (5th generation mobile communication) devices.
