2776 people report comprehensive income, total income of 87.5 billion won

After the creation of the industry code for creating media content such as YouTuber was newly established, the contents of the first comprehensive income report were disclosed.
According to the’Media Content Creators’ Income Percentile Data’ released on the 14th by Yang Gyeong-sook, a member of the National Assembly’s Planning and Finance Committee, on the 14th, 2,776 media content creators reported their gross income in 2019.

Before the industry code was created, YouTubers reported income with codes such as’other self-employed’, so it was difficult to determine their income separately.

One-person media content creation is a typical type of one-person YouTuber who produces and proceeds broadcasting without staff or facilities.
In the first comprehensive income report (May last year) after the establishment of the industry code, the income of 27 people, which is the top 1% of media content creators’ income including YouTubers, was 18.125 billion won, an average of 671 million won per person.
The average income per person of 277 people in the top 10% is about 216 million won.
The income of the lower 50% is 1.5 billion won, which is an average of 1.08 million won per person. The average income of 917 people in the bottom 33% was less than 1 million won per year.
Considering the statistics of a YouTube statistical analysis company that said that there were about 3,400 Korean accounts (channels) with more than 100,000 subscribers as of January last year, it is estimated that YouTuber’s 2019 comprehensive income report was sluggish. When the number of subscribers exceeds 100,000, annual income is known to be about tens of millions of won.

“The tax code was newly established so that we can grasp the exact size and information on the source of income, but it is still difficult for the tax authorities to determine the profit unless individual YouTubers voluntarily report, so we thoroughly induce voluntary reporting. Based on the principle of’where there is income, there is tax’, it will be necessary to have a thorough management and supervision of the IRS to prevent tax evasion from income tax.
