For the first time, the court convicted high-ranking judges who were handed over to trial after being implicated in suspicion of abuse of judicial administration as former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Yang Seung-tae, and sentenced them to probation from imprisonment.

On the 23rd, the 32nd Division of the Criminal Agreement of the Seoul Central District Law (Director Jong-seop Yoon) received 10 months in prison and two years of probation for former Chief of Planning and Coordination of the Court Administration Department, Lee Gyu-jin, and former Supreme Court Sustainable Committee Standing Member, Lee Gyu-jin. He was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison and 3 years probation.

However, the former Seoul High Court chief Shim Sang-cheol and Bang Chang-hyun, the former chief of the Jeonju District Court, who were handed over to the trial along with them were each convicted of innocence.

Jeon Lee was handed over to trial on charges of intervening in a lawsuit for confirming the status of former United Progressive Party lawmakers and attempting to break up a meeting of judges critical of judicial administration such as the International Human Rights Law Research Society. Lee, a former standing member, is accused of engaging in illegal collection of secrets inside the Constitutional Court, intervening in courts related to the former Tongjin Party, and inspecting judges.

Chun Shim is accused of unreasonably instructing former Tongjin Party lawmakers to allocate administrative litigation appeals to a specific court. In the case of the former chief judge, the charges of leaking the results of the sentence and the reason for the judgment of the former Tongjin Party lawmakers in charge of the case were applied according to the request of the court administration.

Earlier, the prosecution at a decision hearing in January said, “The Republic of Korea is losing the means to deter the lawless movement of public power,” and demanded two years and six months in prison for the former chief of staff and the former permanent members, respectively. Former Court Chief Shim and Chief Judge Bang were sentenced to one year in prison and one year and six months in prison, respectively.

Meanwhile, 14 high-ranking judges were handed over to trial due to allegations of abuse of judicial administration power. All of them were found not guilty except for cases in which the first trial was pending, including former Supreme Court Chief Yang, former Supreme Court Justice Go Young-han and Park Byeong-dae, and former Deputy Chief Justice of the Court Administration Department, Lim Jong-hun.
