On the 13th, the third day of the Lunar New Year holiday, the Gwanghwamun intersection in Jongno-gu, Seoul, is showing a calm weather during the Lunar New Year holiday, and it looks hazy due to fine dust. Newsis
Emergency fine dust reduction measures will be implemented in Seoul, the metropolitan area, and Chungcheong areas (Sejong, Chungbuk, and Chungnam) from 6 am to 9 pm on the 14th. However, because it is a holiday, measures such as restrictions on the operation of vehicles with class 5 emissions are not implemented.
Emergency reduction measures are measures to reduce air pollutants in automobiles, factories, and construction sites in order to reduce fine dust in a short period for the health of city and provincial residents when high concentration of fine dust (PM-2.5) persists for a certain period of time.
Measures such as reduction and adjustment of operating hours at 42 air-emitting business sites, reduction and adjustment of construction time at 483 construction sites generating fugitive dust, restrictions on the use of old construction equipment, and reinforcement of road cleaning are implemented.
However, as it is enforced on Sundays, which is a holiday, the enforcement and administration of restrictions on the operation of vehicles with Class 5 emissions and the entire closure of parking lots by public institutions will not be implemented.
According to the National Institute of Environmental Sciences under the Ministry of Environment, as of 5 pm on the 13th, the average daily concentration of ultrafine dust in Seoul was 72㎍/㎥, which is’bad’ (36~75㎍/㎥). It also soared to 114㎍/㎥, which was once’very bad’ (more than 76㎍/㎥).
The government predicted that the situation of high concentration of fine dust will continue until the 14th, the end of the Lunar New Year holiday, and requested that people follow the guidelines for national action, such as refraining from outdoor activities as much as possible.
