The International Football Federation (FIFA) will extend the easing of the rules for compulsory player selection until April. As a result, it has become uncertain that foreign players such as Son Heung-min (Tottenham) will join in the 2nd qualifying round of the 2022 FIFA Qatar World Cup Asian region scheduled for March.
FIFA announced on the 6th (Korean time) that it will extend the easing measures for the selection of national team players that were decided in August last year due to the aftermath of a novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) until April. The measure applies to all men’s and women’s soccer and futsal national teams running through the end of April.
Initially, during the A-match period, all clubs had to respond to requests for players from national teams, but FIFA has relaxed this rule in consideration of the Corona 19 pandemic last year.
Accordingly, it was possible not to respond to the national team convocation if the club’s country that had to send players to the national team was obligated to self-isolate for more than five days after entering the country.
In the case of Britain, where Son Heung-min is active, it is unclear whether Tottenham will be willing to quarantine, as it mandates self-isolation on the 10th of all inbound travelers from the 18th of last month.
The Korean soccer team coach Paulo Bento, who will be playing the World Cup qualifiers starting next month, has a burden of having to play an A match without an overseas party.
The’Bento’ plans to hold two Qatar World Cup second qualifying matches (1 home game, 1 away game) at the end of March and 2 qualifying matches (home game) in June.
The Korean national soccer team (2 wins, 2 draws, 8 points, goals +10) ranked second after Turkmenistan (3 wins, 2 losses, 9 points, goals +3), who played one less match in Group H of Qatar World Cup 2nd qualifying round. It is located.
