It is predicted that sales of fabless companies around the world this year account for a third of the semiconductor market. It is predicted that it will record a record high of 32.9% of its sales share.

According to market researcher IC Insights on the 29th (local time), global fabless companies are expected to record sales of 130 billion dollars this year, up 22% from the previous year. On the other hand, the sales growth rate of IDM, which refers to Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Intel, is less than that of fabless. It is expected to reach $2657 billion, an increase of 6% from the previous year.

In 2010, sales of the fabless industry were worth 63.5 billion dollars (about 69.4 trillion won). It has more than doubled in 10 years. In 2002, fabless companies accounted for only 13% of sales in the total semiconductor market. The performance of fabless companies such as Qualcomm, Nvidia, and AMD has improved significantly, leading to an increase in sales in the entire fabless industry.

IC Insights analyzed that “the fabless market is expected to maintain the low 30% share of the total IC market over the next five years.”

The semiconductor industry is divided into ▲ fabless that only designs semiconductors, ▲ integrated semiconductor company (IDM) that does semiconductor design and production together, and ▲ foundries that only produce semiconductors.
