For the first time in 23 years since its founding in 1998, Lotte Mart will conduct the desired retirement for all positions, from employees to managers. The recession in the offline distribution industry, which was accelerated by Corona 19, is in the shape of leading to a reduction in personnel following store reorganization. The possibility of further expansion of restructuring cannot be ignored as other subsidiaries also continue to have sluggish earnings.

On the 24th, Lotte Mart announced its hopeful retirement through the company intranet. Among 4,300 full-time employees, employees of 10 years or older by the same position are eligible. It refers to an employee who has maintained a position such as manager or manager for more than 10 years. It is known that arms contract workers such as cashiers (cashiers) were excluded.

For those who wish to retire, the maximum basic salary is 27 months as retirement benefits. It also provides 5 million won in school expenses per college student child.

Lotte Mart recorded a cumulative operating deficit of 66 billion won over the past three years. Due to the fast delivery momentum of e-commerce (e-commerce), the performance was on a decline.

Lotte Mart closed 12 stores last year. Unpaid leave was also conducted for those who wished. Lotte Mart plans to close additional stores this year as well.

Earlier, Lotte Hotel implemented honorary retirement for employees aged 58 and over, and Lotte Hi-Mart received applications for hopeful retirement for 80 people. Lotte Food, Lotte GRS (Lotteria operator), and Lotte Asahi liquor are also accepting applicants for retirement. Lotte Culture Works, a Lotte Cinema operator faced with a sharp drop in visitors, is undergoing a second hopeful retirement this year following last year.

The company emphasizes that it is an inevitable decision due to poor performance. A Lotte Mart official said, “The desired retirement will be achieved by the applicant’s voluntary will,” and “The target number, etc. has not been determined.”
