A suspicious case was reported to Jeju Island, where AI did not occur even during the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) nationwide this winter.

The possibility of a highly pathogenic AI confirmation is very high, but if it is confirmed, it will be the first case in Jeju.

The Central Avian Influenza Accident Control Headquarters announced on the 12th that a suspected case of highly pathogenic AI was reported at a meat duck farm (raising about 1,000 animals) in Jeju City, Jeju.

It is explained that the H5 type avian influenza antigen was detected as a result of an AI antigen test on the farm at the livestock quarantine agency (animal sanitation laboratory) in Jeju Island. Whether it is highly pathogenic is expected to come out soon.

In Jeju Island, the AI virus has been detected six times in the carcasses or feces of wild birds, but this is the first time in this winter that a suspicious case has been reported on a farm.

The Heavy Water Division is conducting preemptive quarantine measures, such as restricting access to the farm, conducting epidemiological investigations, and restricting movement of farms within a 10 km radius.

An official from Jungsubon said, “Be sure to disinfect the farms, vehicles, people, and goods in poultry farms, and be sure to practice basic rules such as changing boots and disinfecting hands when entering and exiting the barn.”
