EV exports increased for 43 consecutive months, the highest increase in February

[지앤이타임즈]Among vehicles sold in the domestic market, the proportion of eco-friendly vehicles is steadily increasing and continues to be a double digit.

However, hybrid (HEV) still accounts for an absolute proportion of eco-friendly car consumption.

Exports also showed remarkable growth, with the proportion of hybrids being high, but the growth rate of electric vehicles recorded a record high.

According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, in February, domestic sales of automobiles were 12,317, and exports were 161,886.

Domestic demand increased by 24.2% and exports increased by 35.0% compared to the same period last year, showing a strong trend.

Noteworthy is that the growth of eco-friendly cars in domestic and exports is much higher than that of all cars.

In fact, in February, domestic demand for eco-friendly cars increased by 104.5% year-on-year to 18,342 units, and exports increased by 70.9% to 24,932 units.

In particular, the domestic sales of eco-friendly cars recorded 14.9% of the total number of car sales in Korea in February.

The proportion of eco-friendly vehicles among domestic automobiles has steadily maintained double digits since it exceeded the average of 10% for the first time last year, and the range is growing.

According to the Ministry of Industry, the proportion of eco-friendly vehicles in the domestic market last year recorded 12%, which is 13.1% in January this year and 14.9% in February this year.

Eco-friendly cars are also increasing in proportion to total passenger car exports, from 9.3% in February 2019 to 12.5% ​​in February of last year, and to 16.0% in February of this year.

◇ Electric vehicle domestic demand decreased compared to the same period last year

The domestic sales of eco-friendly cars are still led by hybrids.

Of the 18,342 eco-friendly cars sold in February, 14,047 units, or 76.6%, were counted as hybrid cars.

Electric vehicles sold 2,130 units, which account for 11.6% of domestic demand, followed by plug-in hybrids (PHEV) with 1,597 units and hydrogen cars (FCEV) with 568 units.

Compared to the same period last year, the growth of the hybrid line was remarkable.

Hybrids increased by 162.5% and plug-in hybrids by 527.6%.

In response, the Ministry of Industry evaluated that the domestic sales of hybrids are showing a solid increase for 12 consecutive months, and in particular, the increase of the Granger, K5, and Kona hybrids is leading the growth trend.

On the other hand, electric car sales decreased by 45.3%, but as it is at the beginning of the year, the subsidies for electric car purchases by local governments are still limited.

◇ Exports of hydrogen vehicles grew by more than 14% with 103 units

The export volume of eco-friendly cars in February was 24,932, accounting for 16.0% of the total number of passenger car exports.

It increased by 3.5%p from the same period last year.

By car type, hybrids accounted for the highest share of 13,137 units, which accounted for 52.7% of the total export volume.

However, 9,085 electric cars were also sold, equivalent to 36.4%.

In particular, exports of electric vehicles increased by 114.8% over the same period last year and are showing a 43-month straight growth.

It was found that Kia’s Niro played a role in the growth of electric vehicle exports.

In February, 4,866 electric vehicles were exported only in February, accounting for more than half of the total electric vehicle exports.

The export volume of hydrogen cars in February also recorded 103 units, an increase of 14.4% compared to the same period last year.
