Hyundai Motor Group will promote multilateral cooperation with SK Group in the hydrogen business field.
On the 2nd, Hyundai Motor Group and SK Group held a meeting at SK Incheon Petrochemical on how to expand the hydrogen ecosystem. In addition to Chairman Eui-sun Eui-sun of Hyundai Motor Group, CEOs Gong Young-woon, Jang Jae-hoon, and Jo Seong-hwan attended, and from SK Group, Chairman Tae-won Choi, Dong-Hyun Jang, Hyung-wook Choo, and Yoon-seok Choi attended the SK Group.
On this day, the two companies agreed to build a consensus on establishing a hydrogen ecosystem and achieving carbon neutrality, and to actively seek cooperation areas where business synergies can be created.
First of all, SK Group will convert about 1,500 vehicles operating at major business sites into Hyundai Motor’s hydrogen electric vehicles. In addition, the company is working together to build hydrogen and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. By the end of this year, each of the hydrogen charging stations for commercial vehicles will be charged at SK Nae Truck House, which is a logistics service base in Incheon and Ulsan, and concrete cooperation plans to install hydrogen charging stations at SK gas stations nationwide will also be undertaken.
The two companies plan to continue cooperation to expand eco-friendly vehicle charging infrastructure by discussing the installation of 200kW rapid chargers at SK gas stations.
SK Group Chairman Tae-won Choi said, “Hydrogen is an eco-friendly energy suitable for the domestic environment because it is not affected by the climate and the land area required for production is small.”
Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Eui-Sun Eui said, “Hydrogen can be used not only as an energy source, but also as an energy storage medium, so it is expected that it will play the role of’energy currency’ in the carbon-neutral era.” He said, “We will build a healthy hydrogen ecosystem that can be used organically, and accelerate the realization of a hydrogen society through successful energy conversion.”
