The European Union (EU) has officially introduced the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19)’vaccine passport’. It is an incentive to save the tourism industry hit by Corona 19 ahead of the peak summer season.

According to the AP news agency on the 17th (local time), the executive committee of the EU submitted a plan to introduce a digital green certificate to the European Parliament. This target is for EU residents who have been vaccinated with the Corona 19 vaccine or have recovered from infection and have antibodies. With this certificate, EU residents can move freely within the region without isolation.

“We aim to help member states restore freedom of movement in a safe, responsible and reliable way,” said Ursula Ponderrayen, EU Commissioner. The related matters will be discussed at the EU summit scheduled on the 25th and 26th. For the proposal to be implemented, it must be approved by the Summit and the European Parliament.

The decision of the EU Commission came as the summer vacation season approaches. Until now, countries with a high proportion of the tourism industry, such as Greece, Spain, Italy, etc., have strongly supported the implementation, hoping that the introduction of a vaccination certificate will cause breathing in the travel industry stagnated by Corona 19.

First of all, the 27 EU member states agree on the need to introduce a certificate. However, there are still conflicting opinions between member countries over whether or not citizens who have received a vaccine from Russia and China who have not yet obtained approval from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) are still conflicting with each other, leading to difficulties until the actual introduction.

In addition, some countries, such as France and Germany, are still concerned that pregnant women or young people who are subordinate to vaccination may face disadvantage. Academia points out that it can spread the virus even if you get the vaccine and have no symptoms. The World Health Organization (WHO) also opposed the introduction of the certificate on the 8th. The reason is that the vaccination has not been sufficiently advanced worldwide, and it is not clear how long the immunity will last.
