(Brussels = Yonhap News) Correspondent Kim Jong-un = The European Union (EU) recently introduced a new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) vaccine export approval system, and 27 cases have been approved so far, Bloomberg News reported on the 11th.
The Commission, an EU administration, said it had approved all applications for export of the COVID-19 vaccine so far.
The EU Commission said last week that it had approved the shipment of four vaccines to Canada, Japan and the United Kingdom last week, followed by an additional 23 vaccine exports.
The recent approvals included exports of vaccines to Australia, China, Mexico, New Zealand, Oman and Saudi Arabia.
The EU introduced a system that requires pharmaceutical companies to obtain approval from member states when exporting Corona 19 vaccines produced in the EU to outside the region from the 30th of last month, as concerns over the shortage of COVID-19 vaccine supply and slow vaccination rate in the region grew.
Pharmaceutical companies must inform member countries of new export plans in advance and provide information on export targets and quantities. If the established criteria are not met, member states may block exports.
In this regard, EU Commissioner Urzula von der Raien said on the 10th, “We have no intention of restricting companies that respect EU contracts.” “Europe is always ready to help. But we are ours.” I ask for a fair share.”
The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed concern about this scheme in the EU, saying, “It is not helpful in the current situation to not allow the free flow of ingredients necessary to make vaccines or other pharmaceutical products.”
The EU Commission has so far signed supply contracts with pharmaceutical companies in each country on behalf of 27 member states with a population of 450 million to secure 2.3 billion doses of the COVID-19 vaccine that has already been approved or is being developed.
Among them, three vaccines have been approved for use in the EU, developed by the US pharmaceutical company Pfizer-German Bioentech, the US Modena, and multinational pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca-UK Oxford University.
