Etna volcano, one of the world’s major active volcanoes, started erupting from a snow-covered crater on the 16th (local time) as lava rose up into the sky with dark red smoke columns. Volcanic ash poured out like rain. The eruption lasted for more than an hour, and lava flowed down the mountain slopes. It was the largest volcanic activity in recent years. Fortunately, no damage was reported to the nearby village.
However, a huge amount of volcanic ash settled on houses and roads, causing inconvenience to residents. Catania International Airport was also closed for some time. This is because it was difficult to secure visibility due to volcanic ash and smoke covered in the sky, and the volcanic ash fell on the runway and there was a problem in the safety of take-off and landing.
