After months of planning, the Ethereum community formalized the Berlin hard fork schedule. This is an important milestone in the Ethereum development roadmap. Ethereum lead developer Tim Beiko said on March 8 that the Berlin Hard Fork will take place on April 14 at a block height of 12,244,000, Coindelegraph reported on March 8. Ropsten is the first testnet to be upgraded, and the upgrade is scheduled to proceed on March 10th. Next, Goerli and Rinkeby networks are expected to be upgraded at weekly intervals on March 17 and March 24, respectively.

Ethereum node management has been suggested to upgrade three testnets to the Berlin-compatible version as soon as possible and upgrade to the mainnet before April 7. “Ethereum node operators need to upgrade their nodes before forking the network they want to participate in. Due to the variability in block creation times, it is better to upgrade several days ahead of the expected date,” said Beiko. Exchanges, wallet service providers and ETH holders have nothing to do because of the upgrade.

A total of four improvement proposals (EIP, Ethereum Improvement Protocol) are implemented through the Berlin Hard Fork.

-EIP-2565: Reduces ModExp precompile protocol cost-EIP-2929: Increases specific gas fees-EIP-2718: Introduces a new type of transaction-EIP-2930: Transaction type with optional access list include

Meanwhile, Ethereum’s advanced hard fork was performed in December 2019 and January 2020, respectively, with Istanbul and Muir Glacier upgrades. This upgrade is named after Devcon 0 in Berlin. Ethereum’s next upgrade plan is called’London’ and Devcon 1 will be held in London.

Ethereum is still taking advantage of the momentum of Eth2, which was launched in December last year. Eth2 is the beginning of a multi-year upgrade of the Ethereum blockchain network, which attempts to switch from the existing Proof of Work Agreement (PoW) to the Proof of Stake (PoS) model.

Meanwhile, as of 10 am on March 10, Ethereum is trading at $1,866, up 6.7% from the previous day. At the same time, the total market value of Ethereum was $214.6 billion, ranking 36th in the world after Coca-Cola of $211.9 billion.
