Based on CoinDesk BPI, the price of Ethereum (ETH) on the 3rd (local time) surpassed $1000 each for the first time since January 2018. Ethereum recorded its highest price at $1002.81 on this day, and then is rising and falling at the $990 mark as of the 4th.

With the price soaring nearly 30% in one day, the market capitalization of Ethereum also increased significantly to USD 1142 billion (KRW 124,249.6 billion). It is the second largest among all cryptocurrencies in the order of market capitalization after Bitcoin.

Ethereum’s move seems to have come from the increased interest of institutional investors ahead of the launch of ETH futures on the Chicago Merchandise Exchange (CME) scheduled for February 8. Ethereum surpassed the $600 mark in November last year and then crossed the $700 mark on December 27th.
