Ethereum conducts hard fork in Berlin on April 14th

[블록미디어 강주현 기자] Ethereum is scheduled to conduct the’Berlin Hard Fork’ on the 14th of next month. The Berlin hard fork will take place at 12244,000 blocks on the Ethereum mainnet.

The first testnet for this hard fork, Lopsten, is expected to be released on the 10th (local time). The second testnet, Goerley, will be released on the 17th, and the third testnet, Robsten, will be released on the 24th.

The Ethereum community recommended that node operators be compatible with the three testnets as soon as possible, and that the mainnet should be upgraded to a version compatible with the Berlin hard fork by April 7th.

Due to the variability of the hard fork time, it is recommended to update it a few days before the scheduled date. Exchanges, wallet service providers, and Ethereum token holders do not necessarily need to upgrade.

Four Ethereum improvement proposals are implemented through the Berlin Hard Fork. ▲ EIP-2565 to reduce the cost of ModExp pre-compile protocol ▲ EIP-2929 to increase specific gas costs ▲ EIP-2718 to introduce a new type of transaction ▲ EIP-2930, which includes transaction types with specific access lists.

Berlin is the continuation of the Istanbul and Muir Glacier upgrades that took place in December 2019 and January last year, respectively. This hard fork was taken from Devcon 0 in Berlin. The next upgrade will be called the’London Hard Fork’, which is named after London where Devcon 1 was held.

Ethereum has been upgrading its network over the years to switch from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake since launching the Ethereum 2.0 stage 0 mainnet in December last year.

Ethereum is trading at 2.40 million won, down 3.32% from the previous day, based on the coin market cap at 1:51 pm on the 10th.
