9 Dan Kim In, a giant tree of Korean Go world,’Eternal Noodles’ passed away on the 4th. 78 years old.

Born in 1943 in Gangjin, Jeollanam-do, the deceased was the first generation changer in Korean modern Baduk. When I learned Hangeul, I encountered Baduk and it became my lifelong path. In 1955, he studied in Seoul alone while holding a checkerboard, Kim Bong-seon, 5th Dan, and Ama Gosu Lee Hak-jin. He joined at the age of 58 years and 15 years old, after 3 years and 6 months of learning Baduk in earnest, and was evaluated as’a profound ethos and reading the depths of the abyss’. In 1962, he went to study in Japan, which was known as the Mecca of World Go at the time, and studied Minoru Kitani 9dan. The Japanese media also predicted the’Kim Jukrim era’ by tying together geniuses from three East Asian countries, including Kim In, Japan’s Odake, and Taiwan’s Lin Haifeng.

The deceased, who returned to Korea in 1963, caused a stir by defeating Cho Nam-cheol 8th Dan in the 10th Noodles Match in 66 and winning. This is the beginning of the Kim In era, breaking down the clan of Nam-cheol Cho, who has reigned in Korean Go for 20 years. In 1971, he achieved 6 consecutive defeats until the 15th Noodles Battle, and was called’Eternal Noodles’ and’Kim Guksu’ in the world of Baduk.

Afterwards, the deceased had won a total of 30 times over 10 years, including 7 consecutive defeats in the throne battle and the defeated king battle until he handed over the position of leading Korean Go to 9th Dan Jo Hun-hyun. His career record for 63 years as a professional was 860 wins, 5 draws and 703 losses against 1568. The 40 consecutive wins of 1968 were the highest consecutive wins in Korea so far.

Although he was a deceased man who criticized the leap of Korean Baduk in the 1960s and 1970s, he was not a vicious and heartless fighter. He was an idealist and romanticist who pursued the Tao of Baduk. “If it’s Baduk to be trained like a machine and forgotten the history of the world and try to win and win, what will that mean? It was his belief that “Go’s technicians and Baduk’s masters are different.” The deceased did not participate in the KBS Baduk Royal War until the end, saying that TV Baduk, which has to be chased out of time under the lighting, is contrary to the nature of Baduk.

He was also a good man who liked alcohol and friends. He took the lead in releasing prize money and game fees to take care of the juniors in need. His juniors followed him, calling him “Cheongsan”. In 2006, he had surgery for gastric cancer because the alcohol he had enjoyed all his life hurt his health. Go columnist Park Chi-moon commemorated the deceased, “She was a’chief’ who puts more importance on the process than the result, and was the owner of a character that could be a model for everyone.”

Since 2007, the deceased participated in the’Kim In Noodles’ held in his hometown, Gangjin, as a venue and enjoyed meeting with amateur drivers. Inaugurated as the National Children’s Go Tournament, Kim In Noodle Cup was upgraded to the International Senior Go Tournament in 2008. The deceased, who last visited the 13th Kim In noodle boat in 2019, is said to be very sorry that the tournament was not held in the aftermath of last year’s Corona 19.

The bereaved are his wife Im Ok-gyu and his son Kim San, and his wife was arranged at the funeral hall of Sinchon Severance Hospital in Seoul. On the 6th, Jangji is at Xi’an Memorial Park in Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do. 02-2227-7500
