Epic Games Announces Metahuman Creator | K-bench

Epic Games (CEO Tim Sweeney) first unveiled Metahuman Creator, a new cloud streaming application that can quickly and easily create high-quality digital humans on the 11th (Korean time).

Metahuman Creator is based on Unreal Engine Pixel Streaming, which helps game developers and real-time 3D content creators reduce the time it took weeks or months to create digital humans to less than an hour while maintaining the highest levels of quality. It’s a new application. In addition, it provides intuitive workflow and easy scalability so that all creators, regardless of team size, can easily and diversely create high-quality digital humans that meet the standards of next-generation platforms and high-end virtual production.

Metahuman creators can select and set face presets to be used for production from a wide database, and when additional characters are changed, actual samples from the library are blended naturally to create realistic digital humans. In addition, various hairstyles made based on Unreal Engine’s strands and hair cards for low-end platforms are provided, as well as a variety of outfits and 18 body types with different proportions.

The digital humans created in this way can be downloaded through the Quickcell Bridge, which is fully rigged and includes LODs, allowing animation and motion capture to be applied directly from Unreal Engine. In addition, source data is provided in a Maya file format that includes meshes, skeletons, facial rigs, animation controls, and materials.

Downloaded assets can be animated using performance capture tools or manually keyframed. In addition to being able to use Unreal Engine’s Live Link Face iOS app, Epic Games is working with third parties to provide support for performance capture tools such as ARKit, Faceware, JALI, SpeechGraphics, Dynamixyz and Cubic Motion. Animations created for one metahuman can be applied to other metahumans and can be reused across various projects.

Epic Games will provide an early access service for metahuman creators within a few months, and two human samples that can preview the performance of metahuman creators can be downloaded right now through the Epic Games launcher.

On the other hand, Epic Games will take a closer look at the Metahuman Creator through the Metahuman Creator Spotlight Webinar with Unreal Engine experts at 2 pm on the 18th. For more details and registration, please visit Epic Lounge.
