While the government unveiled its policy to open school for elementary school students, the largest number of children’s group infections occurred after the outbreak of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) at an unlicensed alternative school run by a religious organization. Children and adolescents often have no symptoms even if they are infected with Corona 19. There is also a possibility of causing an’n-th infection’ while walking through the community without knowing the fact of the infection.

A bunch of 77 students under 19 confirmed

According to the Central Defense Countermeasure Headquarters and Gwangju Metropolitan City, the cumulative number of confirmed patients at TCS International School in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju as of 0:00 on the 27th reached 110. The highest number of students is 77. The rest are 25 faculty members and 7 members. This school, an unapproved alternative educational facility under the IM Mission, was operated as a camp. The total number of campers was 97, of which 79.4% were infected.

By age group of confirmed students, 50 children under the age of 13 were the most. The youngest is 6 years old. Then there were 24 people aged 14-16 years old and 3 people younger than 17-19 years old. After the Corona 19 epidemic, there has been no case of such a flood of teenage patients in a single facility. Gwangsan-gu TCS International School was previously tested at’TCS Ace International School’ in Buk-gu, Gwangju, and a group infection was revealed.

Asymptomatic and mildly reported teenage patients so far

Until now, there were relatively more asymptomatic and mild cases of 10 corona19 patients compared to other age groups. The quarantine authorities estimate that TCS International School also raised the virus in a’three wheat’ (closed, closed, dense) environment for asymptomatic patients. As a result of the epidemiological investigation, it was found that TCS International School students used 14 studios in Jangdeok-dong, Gwangsan-gu and 7 studios in Jingok Industrial Complex, Gwangsan-gu. Three to six people stayed in one room. Gwangju City explained that up to 11 people were able to deal with room and board in oriental medicine. The authorities suspect that face-to-face classes and worship services were also included.

The number of educational-related facilities under IM Mission that has been identified so far is in 11 cities and provinces and 26 locations nationwide. There are 841 registered students and faculty members. Of these, more than 80% have undergone corona19 diagnostic tests. 310 people were confirmed. By region, Daejeon headquarters (accumulated 176 patients), Gwangju (125), and Gyeonggi (9). Fortunately, there were no reports of suspicious cases of’nth’ transmission in the community. An official from Bang Dae-bon said, “The epidemiological relationship between Daejeon and Gwangju and Gyeonggi has not been confirmed at this time.”

The teenage group infection that broke out before school class

In the aftermath of a group infection initiated by TCS International School, anxiety about school classes in the new semester is growing. The Ministry of Education decided to start school classes from the previous day (26th) from the lower grades of kindergarten and elementary school, and gradually expand the targets. He said he would not change the school opening schedule even if the number of confirmed cases increases after the Lunar New Year holidays. In December of last year, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Commissioner Jeong Eun-kyung said, “Only about 2% of children and adolescents with corona 19 confirmed through school were infected. “The profits from school closures are limited and the social damage is great.” However, there are voices of concern among parents because they do not know where the teenage infection embers will bounce. Parents’ aunt (42, female) said, “I am worried about what happens if my son is enrolled in elementary school this year, and even if a group infection breaks out after sending it to school,” he said.

Experts emphasize that, above all, basic quarantine rules should be strictly followed. Kim Woo-joo, a professor of infectious medicine at Korea University’s Guro Hospital, said, “The environment of TCS International School of ‘3 Mil’ and general school is different. In particular, for kindergarteners and lower grades (so that they do not become tusks), teacher guidance is necessary.”
