[기계신문] Korea Institute for Future Technology Education held a seminar on and offline on January 29 (Fri) at the Sapphire Hall of the FKI Center in Yeouido, Seoul on the subject of’The Great Transformation of the Energy Industry, Energy for 2050 Carbon Neutrality, and the Transition of the Power Generation Industry Will be held simultaneously.

Carbon neutrality refers to a method of offsetting the actual carbon dioxide emission by increasing the absorption amount as much as carbon dioxide emission, which is the main cause of global warming, by creating a forest, investing in pollution-free energy facilities, or purchasing carbon credits.

From the EU (European Union) in December 2019, to China in September 2020, and the Japanese and Korean governments in October 2020, major countries have declared carbon neutrality one after another in less than a year.

In addition, in the US presidential election held in November last year, with the victory of Joe Biden, who pledged to rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement, carbon neutrality is now becoming a global trend. Discussion on the introduction of a’carbon border tax’, which imposes a tax on exports, is in earnest.

In particular, carbon neutrality is a policy that has a great influence on the generation of new and renewable energy including hydrogen, which is expected to further expand and foster the demand for clean energy.

Accordingly, the Korean government also announced a long-term strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 24% compared to 2017 by 2030, and to achieve virtually zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, and to respond to the climate crisis, the ‘2050 The long-term low-carbon power generation strategy (LEDS) and the government proposal for the 2030 National Greenhouse Gas Reduction Target (NDC) were confirmed at the cabinet meeting on December 15th.

This seminar is ▶ Implementation of the 2050 Carbon Neutral and its Impact on Industry ▶ The Green New Deal and a Carbon-neutral Society ▶ Implementation of the Green Hydrogen Certification System and the mandatory hydrogen use system (RPS) ▶ Introduction of carbon neutrality and expansion of solar power generation ▶ Carbon Introduction of Neutrality and Expansion of the Hydrogen Fuel Cell and Power Generation Fuel Cell Markets ▶The discussion of countermeasures for carbon neutrality will be dealt with in depth through presentations on plans to expand land and offshore wind power generation to achieve carbon neutrality.

An official at the Korea Institute for Future Technology Education said, “For the survival of our economy and society in the future, carbon neutrality is a task that must be pursued, and for this purpose, a strategy to clearly understand related technologies and actively respond to new paradigm changes in the new and renewable energy industry. The preparation is essential,” he said. “This seminar will be a place to understand the core of carbon neutrality that will encompass the entire industrial economy in 2021, and to present strategies according to related domestic and international industry and market trends.”
