Former STX Group Chairman Kang Deok-soo, who was handed over to trial on charges such as unfair support for affiliates and fraudulent accounting, has been suspended from prison sentences.

The second division of the Supreme Court (Chief Judge Sang-Hwan Kim) announced on the 8th that it has confirmed the court sentence of three years in prison and four years probation at the appeal of former Chairman Kang, who was charged with violating the law on specific economic crimes (embezzlement). .

Former Chairman Kang has been tried on charges of embezzling 55.7 billion won in his money and providing 284 billion won in subsidiaries’ funds to private companies.

He was also accused of issuing corporate bonds worth 1.75 trillion won after receiving a fraudulent loan of 900 billion won through fraudulent accounting of 2.3 trillion won.

The first trial admitted a charge of 5841 billion won among the charges of fraudulent accounting and sentenced him to six years in prison.

However, in the second trial, some charges were turned over to innocence, and Chairman Kang was sentenced to three years in prison and four years on probation.

The judiciary said that the charges against Chairman Kang’s collusion with accountants were not admitted, and considered all charges of fraudulent accounting as innocent.

However, the amount of embezzlement and dismissal increased to 91.5 billion won with the addition of 23.1 billion won in unfair support (allocation) for STX Construction to the 67.5 billion won recognized by the first trial.

Former Chairman Kang and prosecutors appealed, but the Supreme Court dismissed them.

Former Minister of Commerce, Industry and Energy Lee Hee-beom, who was prosecuted with former Chairman Kang on charges of malpractice in connection with STX Heavy Industries’ provision of joint guarantees, was confirmed innocent.
