Electricity bills were frozen in the second quarter of this year.

Some have observed that electricity rates will increase in 7 years due to rising international oil prices, but it is analyzed that electricity rates have been frozen in order to stabilize the common people’s prices.

KEPCO announced on the 22nd that it will freeze the fuel cost adjustment unit for April-June this year.

Earlier this year, KEPCO has introduced a’fuel cost indexing system’ that changes electricity rates every three months to reflect the fluctuations in international oil prices and import prices of LNG and coal. In the first quarter of this year, electricity bills were cut by 3 won per kilowatt-hour (kWh), reflecting the trend of falling fuel costs.

Some observers have reported that the international oil price in the first quarter, which determines the electricity rate for the second quarter, has risen significantly, and it is expected to increase by 2-3 won per 1 kWh, but it is decided to freeze due to the rising prices of the common people due to the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19). It seems to have been decided.

Inflation authorities have shown a somewhat negative stance on this increase in electricity rates. This is because it will stably manage utility bills as consumer prices have risen due to the effects of Corona 19.

On the 19th, the 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, Kim Yong-beom, said, “We will stably manage the utility bill in the second quarter to minimize the impact on consumer prices.” ‘You have sent a message.
