Elderly gift card? ‘awhile’… Convenience store owner prevented phishing

With increasingly sophisticated voice phishing, it is difficult to recover the amount of damage even if the criminal is caught. So prevention is more important. Recently, the owner of a convenience store is said to have prevented damages of tens of thousands of won by quick response.

A female customer in her 60s with a cell phone in her hand urgently enters a convenience store.

Instead of picking an item, the customer goes straight to the checkout and shows the phone screen.

“My daughter bought a gift card and sent me a message asking me to take a picture.”

Gift cards can be used online once you know your pin number, making them a target for voice phishing criminals.

Convenience store owner Yoon Young-shin, who thought something was strange, asked the detailed situation.

He was a victim who was tricked by the voice phishing gang and went to the convenience store.

Yoon guided the victim to a table and explained the situation, and after persuasion, she received a number and made a call with her daughter.

I also learned that the victim had already given me the bank account number, password, and credit card number.

The victim told Yun that the bankbook also contained large amounts of money.

Feeling that the situation was urgent, Yun immediately left the convenience store with the victim.

Then, the report was filed at the security center on the other side of the road, and the damage was prevented by the police stopping the bank account transaction.

At that time, there was about 68 million won in the account of the victim.

Thanks to Mr. Yoon’s quick response, the damage was prevented.

After receiving the report, the victim visited the convenience store again to express his gratitude to Yun, and the police delivered a letter of thanks and a souvenir to Yun.
