Eight confirmed cases of coronavirus infection (Corona 19) from Antioch Church at a girls’ high school in Nam-gu, Gwangju.

As all eight confirmed cases are found to be in the first and second grades, concerns about the spread of serial infection from the Antioch Church are growing.

According to the city of Gwangju on the 2nd, a total of 32 people were tested positive for Corona 19 the day before and were classified as confirmed cases 1784~1815 in Gwangju.

Of these, 20 of them were related to the Antioch Church in West, where corona 19 confirmed cases have been continuously added since the 25th, and the cumulative number of confirmed cases related to the Antioch Church increased to 106.

In particular, eight out of 20 confirmed cases were students of a girls’ high school in Gwangju, and were discovered during an epidemiological investigation of a confirmed missionary affiliated by Antioch Church.

Antioch Church missionaries are located within the church to teach Bible education, subjects, music, and physical education for children aged 3-7.

A high school student in Nam-gu (Gwangju No. 1785), who has a younger brother who attended this missionary, was confirmed by Corona 19 and spread to 7 other enrolled students (Gwangju No. 1805, 1807-1808, 1810-1812, 1815).

The first confirmed student, Gwangju No. 1785, participated in after-school classes for applicants from the 26th to the 28th of last month, and it is reported that 86 students and 26 faculty members participated in the classes for first and second grade students.

The Gwangju City Office of Education implemented emergency on-campus quarantine for the school when eight confirmed cases occurred.

In addition, measures will be taken so that all students and faculty members who did not participate after school on this day can also be tested for Corona 19 at a health center near their residence.

The subjects of the examination were a total of 261 first and second grade students and 35 faculty members who did not undergo examination the previous day (1st).

An official from the Office of Education added, “We will do our best to quarantine and cooperate to prevent the spread of Corona 19 to students in the region including the school.”
