It is predicted that between March and May, egg production will decline by 17% from last year, increasing egg production prices by up to 68% from last year. As the supply of eggs declined, the current consumer price of one plate (30 special eggs) was at a high level of 7600 won.

According to the Agricultural Observation Headquarters of the Korea Rural Economic Research Institute on the 14th, the average number of breeding hens from March to May is 6,611 million, which is expected to decrease by 8.7% from last year and 6.4% from normal.

In particular, the number of animals raised over 6 months of age, which is important for egg production, was estimated to be 45.8 million, 14.1% less than last year and 13.3% less than normal.

As the number of breeding hens decreases, the average daily egg production from March to May is expected to decrease. Production is expected to decline by 17.1% compared to last year and 11.7% compared to normal to 37.6 million units.

The estimated price of the 10 special prices during this period is 1600-1800 won. Compared to last year, March is 38.2-55.4%, April is 40.9-58.5%, and May is 49.7~68.4%. Compared to the average year, it is 69.1~90.3% in March, 52.0~71.0% in April, and 64.5~85.0% in May.

As of the 12th, the consumer price of a single egg was 7633 won. This is 44.7% more expensive than last year and 49.8% more than normal.

It was found that four large supermarkets are selling a plate of eggs from 6950 won to 7980 won before the coupon discount is applied. The average price of 15 traditional markets is 7669 won.

However, the Agricultural Observation Headquarters predicted that in June and September, the number of breeding hens would recover to normal levels. Accordingly, if the spread of highly pathogenic AI slows, egg prices are expected to gradually stabilize.
