Although the government increased supply to catch the spike in egg prices in the aftermath of highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI), egg prices are on the rise for the third consecutive day. Prices of major fruits such as apples and pears are also showing strong strength ahead of the high season.

According to the livestock distribution information of the Livestock Quality Assessment Service on the 31st, the consumer price of an egg (30 special eggs) as of the 29th recorded 7350 won, up 97 won from the previous day. The price of an egg has soared 8.7% in three days from 6761 won on the 27th.

It is 37.7% higher than normal, 38.8% higher than last year, and 30.6% higher than last month.

In order to stabilize egg prices, the government imported eggs from the US on the 26th and distributed them to the market, and government stockpiles are also gradually being released, but egg prices are seldom stabilized.

Egg prices remain high as supplies are not yet sufficient to affect the market, and the number of poultry killings, including laying hens, continues to increase due to the spread of highly pathogenic AI.

In addition to eggs, prices for major fruits such as apples and pears are also fluctuating ahead of the high season.

Looking at the agricultural product distribution information of the Korea Agricultural and Fishery Food Distribution Corporation (aT), the retail price of 10 Fuji Apple products recorded 33,511 won as of the 29th. This is an amount higher than last year’s 22,792 won or the average year’s 21,299 won, more than 10,000 won.

The retail price of 10 Shinshin-pear products was also 47,808 won, far exceeding 32,096 won a year ago and 31,345 won a year ago.

The retail price of 10 sweet persimmon products was estimated at 13,625 won, which is about 3,000 won higher than last year (10,929 won) or average year (10,33 won).

The Korea Rural Economic Research Institute’s Agricultural Observation Headquarters predicted that shipments of apples, pears, and sweet persimmons could decrease in the amount of shipments of apples, pears, and sweet persimmons ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday in the’Breaking News of Main Fruit New Season Shipments’ released recently.

During the two weeks before Lunar New Year (January 29-February 11), shipments of apples were 3,900 tons, down 12.3% from last year, and the price of a 5 kg box of products was 31,000-, which is twice that of last year (10,063 won) It was estimated to reach 35,000 won.

During the same period, ship shipments were 25,600 tons, 15.6% less than last year, and the estimated price of a 7.5 kg box of products is 38,000 to 42,000 won. Last year the price was 23,100 won.

One week before Lunar New Year (February 5-11), persimmon shipments are expected to decline 6.8% YoY to 2100 tons. Accordingly, the price of a 10kg box of goods is expected to be 39,000-42,000 won, which is more than 10,000 won higher than last year’s 28,327 won.
