The price of eco-friendly vehicles, such as electric vehicles and hydrogen vehicles, will fall by more than 10 million won by 2025. In addition, charging stations, which are an obstacle to the supply of eco-friendly vehicles, are closer to people’s lives.

On the 18th, the government held a meeting to examine and coordinate state affairs presided over by Prime Minister Chung Sye-gyun at Hyundai-Kia Motors’ Namyang Research Center in Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do, and discussed the ‘4th Basic Plan for Eco-friendly Vehicles’.

The core of the measures the government came up with on this day is to cut the price of eco-friendly cars.

The Hyundai Motor Group is launching an electric vehicle that applies the E-GMP electric vehicle platform this year. Hyundai Motors’ Ioniq 5 and Kia’s CV will be released with the corresponding platform.

The government plans to reduce the price of eco-friendly vehicles by more than 10 million won by 2025 through the localization of such a dedicated platform and parts and materials.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy predicted the time to achieve TCO parity, which lowers EV vehicle prices and fuel cost economics to the level of internal combustion engines, by 2025. Hydrogen vehicles are predicted to reach TCO parity in 2030.

By introducing a battery-less business, the initial purchase price will be reduced to half, and this year, a pilot project for electric vehicles for taxis and trucks will be promoted. It is planned to expand to hydrogen buses in 2022.

The government is also reviewing the extension of eco-friendly vehicle tax benefits (placement tax, acquisition tax, etc.) that will expire at the end of this year. The specific plan has yet to be communicated.

The government also announced plans to expand the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles and hydrogen electric vehicles this year.

The Ministry of Environment plans to install over 2,800 rapid chargers and 123 super-fast chargers at mobile locations such as highways and gas stations with high demand for charging through big data analysis. It means that the environment for rapid charging of electric vehicles at the level of gas stations will be raised to the level of 12,000 cumulative units.

It also came up with plans to expand charging infrastructure centered on people’s living bases, such as residences and workplaces.

The Ministry of Environment will expand more than 30,000 streetlights and outlet-type custom chargers in consideration of the parking conditions and usage environment of facilities closely related to people’s lives, such as residence and work. In addition, the Ministry of Environment plans to link available charging information such as charger usage status and charges to the integrated website for low-emission vehicles.

The hydrogen electric vehicle charging station plans to build more than 50 hydrogen charging stations by this year in the metropolitan area where charging stations are insufficient compared to vehicles. In addition, the number of hydrogen charging stations will be expanded to 450 by 2025 so that they can be reached anywhere in the country within 30 minutes.
