[일렉트릭파워 배상훈 기자]Korea East-West Power (President Il-Joon Park) is taking the lead in promoting the hydrogen economy together with Ulsan Metropolitan City.

On February 26th, East-West Power announced the status of hydrogen industry research and development (R&D) and demonstration projects in cooperation with Ulsan Metropolitan City and future plans.

East-West Power will invest 5.8 trillion won by 2030 in line with the government’s roadmap to revitalize the hydrogen economy. In particular, the’East-West Power Generation Hydrogen Industry Mid- to Long-Term Roadmap’ was established to expand the capacity of fuel cell facilities to 1GW.

As part of that, it is promoting the commercialization of hydrogen fuel cells based on Nexo hydrogen electric vehicle technology with Hyundai Motor Company and Deokyang. The 1MW-class hydrogen fuel cell demonstration project installed at the Ulsan Power Plant Headquarters at East-West Power Plant will be conducted by next year.

East-West Power is also planning to develop source technology for hydrogen power generation using carbon dioxide in the exhaust gas of power plants in cooperation with Ulsan Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) by next May. It is expected to produce high-purity hydrogen and electric power at the same time, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

In addition, it is promoting the construction of a hydrogen fuel cell power plant that can generate electricity for 250,000 households. Focusing on the 20MW-class Daewon fuel cell, which is expected to be completed this year, the company plans to gradually increase its facilities to a 100MW-class scale in the future.

East-West Power continues to promote the urban renewable fuel cell business and profit sharing business. In addition, it is expected to contribute to the localization of power generation facilities through a gas turbine demonstration project in 2026.

“Based on a solid partnership with Ulsan Metropolitan City, we will revitalize the hydrogen economy by expanding renewable energy and developing hydrogen source technology,” said Il-Joon Park, president of East-West Power. I said.

Meanwhile, East-West Power moved its headquarters to Ulsan Innovation City in 2014. Various efforts are being made for local win-win development, such as eco-friendly energy business, job creation, and social contribution activities.
