[일렉트릭파워 배상훈 기자]Korea East-West Power (President Park Il-jun) has developed the commercialization technology of’road block type solar power’ that combines sidewalk block and solar power generation for the first time in Korea.

On December 22nd, East-West Power announced the achievements of block-type solar power commercialization technology development jointly promoted with small and medium-sized companies Hanchuk Tech at the Ulsan headquarters.

This technology has been recognized for its excellence in performance, quality, and economic and technical ripple effects from the government. It was selected as an industrial convergence item on December 16th. Currently, it is included in the list of products for priority purchase of SME technology development products. When applying for the designation of excellent procurement products, additional points are granted.

In addition, it passed the first examination of conformity certification for new industrial products. It is the first in Korea to undergo a road block type solar technology certification process. This certification is a system that supports the commercialization of new products that are difficult to market because there are no technical certification standards. It has the same effect as KS certification.

The R&D goal was achieved in 17 items such as output of test results by accredited certification institutes, efficiency, and strength. In particular, the power generation output is 19W per block, and the power generation efficiency is more than 16%. The strength is 32Mpa, which is more than 10 times stronger than the existing concrete sidewalk block strength of 3Mpa. This is a level that can withstand a 25-ton vehicle.

In general, block-type solar modules are installed on the floor, so their efficiency is reduced by about 30% compared to general modules due to the incident angle of sunlight, shade, and geothermal heat. However, this development has applied a condensing lens that functions like a magnifying glass on the block surface. Then, the reduction in efficiency was minimized.

In addition, for the sidewalk block function, a strength reinforcement technology that utilizes more than 50% of waste resources was applied. While enhancing safety, it also met the conditions for eco-friendly product certification.

An official from East-West Power said, “The solar technology using the road surface is a globally recognized next-generation solar field.” “This technology development can serve as an alternative to the problem of the solar power application site, thus contributing to the expansion of new and renewable energy.”

Meanwhile, East-West Power has built and is operating a 6.3kW demonstration facility in the Ulsan Jung-gu Office Square in September. LED blocks are formed together with solar blocks to produce power during the day. At night, music and video are transmitted to provide attractions to local residents.
