With the initial volume of 50,000 vaccines for the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) scheduled to arrive early next month, the government will discuss when and who the vaccine will be matched first, and the results will be released on the 28th.

According to the Central Defense Countermeasure Headquarters (Bang Dae-bon) on the 24th, the’Corona 19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team’, in which the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and related ministries participate, will confirm the vaccination implementation plan and officially announce it on the 28th.

To date, the government has signed a vaccine purchase contract with the international project’COVAX facility’ and individual pharmaceutical companies such as AstraZeneca, Janssen, Pfizer, and Modena for joint purchase and distribution of vaccines, securing a total of 56 million people. It has almost completed a contract with Nova Bax to bring in an additional 20 million people.

The first vaccine that enters Korea is Pfizer’s product that comes through COVAX. The initial volume is scheduled for 50,000 people.

After that, vaccines such as AstraZeneca in February and March, Janssen and Modena in the second quarter, NovaVax in May, and Hwaaja in the third quarter will be introduced in sequence.

As the schedule for introducing each vaccine is planned, and Pfizer vaccine was available at the beginning of next month, the government is in a position to make a detailed policy on how to inoculate the vaccine and announce it on the 28th.

The announcement on this day will include the targets, timing and method of vaccination.

The most interesting part is who gets the vaccination first. As the initial volume is limited to 50,000 people, attention is being paid to who will be given priority inoculation. Although it is not yet known, some believe that medical institution workers, nursing hospitals, and elderly people living in facilities will be the dominant.

Other countries are also recommending them as priority targets.

In addition, there is a possibility that the elderly, adults with chronic diseases, workers in education and childcare facilities for children and adolescents, first responders to Corona 19, and adults aged 50 to 64 years old.

As the government is planning to proceed and announce a comprehensive discussion on the selection of targets for vaccination, vaccination timing, and vaccination location, the final decision is expected to remain a bit more visible.

Meanwhile, the government previously said that it would consider a two-track vaccination method centered on consignment medical institutions and vaccination centers, as storage temperatures and transportation methods differ depending on the type of vaccine.

The government is planning to designate and operate approximately 10,000 consigned medical institutions and 250 vaccination centers.
