Dynamo Zagreb faced Tottenham Hotspur against the Europa League without a coach. Zagreb coach Joran Mamichi announced his intention to resign after being sentenced to jail.

According to’Sky Sports’ in the UK on the 16th (hereinafter referred to as Korean time), coach Mamichi dropped his post on the same day for being sentenced to four years and eight months in prison in the Croatian Supreme Court for fraud.

Director Mamichi is involved in the charges of embezzlement by his brother Zdrafko Mamichi.

Zdrafko was convicted of tax evasion of 12.20 million Kuna (about 2,160 million won) and for stealing 16 million Kuna (about 20.6 billion won) from the transfer funds when he served as a director of the Zagreb club in the past. Zdrafko fled to neighboring Bosnia and stays there after a ruling two years ago.

The court also convicted manager Mamichi, who was involved in the crime at the time, as well as former club customs officer Milan Ferna and former club head Damir Brvanovic. Former Ferna’s customs officer was sentenced to three years and two months, and Brvanovic was sentenced to three years.

Manager Mamichi protested on the club’s official website, saying, “I don’t think I’m guilty,” but said, “Because I previously said,’I will resign if I am sentenced to imprisonment’, so I will do it.”

The Zagreb team will play the second leg of the 2020-2021 European Football Federation Europa League round of 16 against Tottenham at Stadion Maximir in Zagreb, Croatia, on the 19th.

Zagreb, who lost 0-2 in the previous 1st leg, needs a winning match to advance to the quarterfinals. However, ahead of the game, the manager withdrew due to an unfavorable situation and faced the burden of playing a battle in a leadership vacuum.

The Zagreb team is scheduled to be the next manager, Damir Krznar, who played for the club in the past.
