The Orion confectionery’Chobuk Chip Choco Churros Flavor’ has been selling 11 million bags in 4 months after its launch. This is the result of a shortage phenomenon by getting word of mouth around social network service (SNS).

According to Orion on the 13th, the’Chocolate Chips’, launched in September last year, exceeded 11 million units in sales as of the 11th. This is about 100,000 bags sold per day. The cumulative sales exceeded 11 billion won.

It is reported that the sales of Cobuk Chip Choco Churrus Flavor exceeded 3.5 million bags in 50 days of launch, and the sales volume nearly doubled over the next two months, accelerating sales. It is evaluated that it has become a hit product of Orion in the second half of last month by breaking the highest monthly sales of 3.3 billion won.

Kobuk Chip Choco Churrus Flavor is a product that combines chocolate covering technology with existing Kobuk Chips through a process and production facility developed in-house. Orion explained that the four layers and crispy texture of Cobuk Chip were preserved and the taste of sweet and rich chocolate was realized.

As positive reviews from consumers who tasted the product followed, some of the modifiers such as’the second honey butter chip’ and’drug confectionery’ appeared. As a result, it became a hot topic as some local marts and supermarkets ran out of stock, and resellers sold them over the used trading platform.

In addition, as the chocolate taste gained attention, consumers also purchased the previously released’corn soup taste’ and’dalkonginjeolmi taste’ at the same time, resulting in an increase in overall brand sales.

Orion said, “Even though it is an extension of the existing product, this explosive sales trend is very unusual in the confectionery industry.” Explained.

Orion plans to launch a Choco Churros flavor product in China in the first half of this year in consideration of requests for overseas releases. Currently, Cobuk Chip is being sold in 12 countries including the US and China.
