Actor Chae Min-seo (photo, 40, real name Jo Su-jin), who was handed over to the trial for getting drunk and causing a reverse-driving accident, was sentenced to probation in August in prison at the appeal trial following the first trial.

Section 5-3 of the Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Affairs Office (Judge Lee Kwan-hyung Choi Byung-ryul, Deputy Judge Yoo Seok-dong) sentenced Chae, who was charged with drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act, to eight months in prison and two years of probation.

Chae was drunk at around 6 am on March 26, 2019, while driving backwards on a one-way street in Gangnam, Seoul, and hit another car at a stop. At that time, his blood alcohol concentration was found to be 0.063%.

The first trial court ordered 40 hours of compliance driving lectures and 120 hours of social service, while the appeals court maintained only the compliance driving lecture order and did not order social service.

In addition, the first trial court admitted that Chae’s drunk driving charges and the charges of injuries under the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling were guilty, but the court of appeals trial turned over the charges of injuries, saying that the fact that the victim was injured was not sufficiently proven.

The judge said, “Even though the victim is not particularly in pain, he has been issued a medical certificate from an oriental medical doctor and submitted it as a data, saying that he needs treatment for two weeks.” It’s hard to say that it’s proved enough to wear it.”

Regarding the suspicion of drunk driving, he explained the background of the sentence, saying, “We take into account the fact that the defendant is reflecting on the crime and the blood alcohol concentration was not very high due to’hangover driving’.” At the time, Mr. Chae claimed that he was driving under a hangover, saying, “I fell asleep because it wasn’t 9 o’clock (at night), and I thought my alcohol was awake by my short judgment at around 4-5 a.m. It was known.

This is the fourth time Chae’s drunk driving is known. In March 2012 and December 2015, they were punished for driving under the influence of alcohol three times prior to receiving a summary order of fines respectively.
