An employee of a transport company, who was carrying out the transport business at the Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction’s nuclear plant, was killed by a part weighing 100 tons.

According to the Changwon Branch Office of the Ministry of Employment and Labor on the 10th, at 9:40 am on the 8th, A (45), a freight forwarder, was working to load the parts of nuclear reactor facilities with a crane in the 4th section of Doosan Heavy Industries’ nuclear plant in Changwon, Gyeongnam Crushed.

A got into an accident by putting his upper body between the parts and the trailer to move the non-slip wooden pallet, but the parts moved.

Upon discovery, Mr. A was taken to the hospital and even undergone surgery, but died 13 hours after the accident.

The Changwon branch office is investigating the exact details of the accident, considering that communication between Mr. A and the signalman and the crane driver was not smooth.

The Changwon branch office has issued an order to suspend work on the 4th section of the nuclear plant where the accident occurred.

The National Metal Workers’ Union said that the accident was caused by Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction’s insufficient safety management, so it is necessary to issue an order to suspend work at all workplaces.

The union held a press conference in front of the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s Changwon branch office on the same day and said, “It would not happen if Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction had properly checked whether there were people in the work area.” It was not confirmed whether it worked,” he pointed out.

They demanded that “the range of suspensions should be expanded and thorough supervision should be carried out throughout the entire heavy-duty workshop.”

Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction said, “There was an accident within the company, but the transport company contracted with an external company had an accident while carrying out the transportation work,” and said, “It is not directly related to Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction.”

On the other hand, the Severe Accident Corporate Punishment Act (Severe Accident Act), which was resolved in January, is enforced one year after the promulgation, so it does not apply to this accident.
