Indoor fire hydrants installed on the 4th and 15th floors exploded due to a cold wave in a corridor-style apartment in Dapsimni-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, around 12:55 on the 10th.

In this accident, water from the fire hydrant spread through the corridors and stairs to the entire building, causing the elevator to stop working and some residents were trapped and rescued.

As the water freezes due to the cold weather, the corridor of the apartment has turned into an icy road, making it difficult for residents to move.

“The corridor on the 4th and 15th floors has turned into a completely icy road,” said Lee Hae Ji-ji (26, female) living in the apartment.

Firefighters said, “The water quickly froze due to the cold wave,” and “The fire hydrant pump was stopped and then calcium chloride was sprayed to take action.”
