With more than 1,000 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) related to the Seoul Eastern Detention Center, and the “correction facility departure” group infection, there is no sign of any subsidence, the Eastern Detention Center is conducting the 6th full test.
According to the Ministry of Justice on the 5th, the Dongbu Detention Center conducts the 6th full inspection on 530 employees and 338 detainees.
The results of the total inspection are expected to come out from the 6th. As all three-digit confirmed cases occurred in the previous 1st to 5th total tests, attention is focused on whether the spread of the 6th total test will decrease.
On December 18, last year, three weeks after the first confirmed cases, the Dongbu Detention Center conducted a first total inspection on 2844 prisoners and employees, and 187 were confirmed. On December 23, 300 people were confirmed in the 2nd full-scale examination, 260 in the 3rd, 140 in the 4th, and 127 in the 5th.
Dongbu detention center transferred 217 people to Yeongwol prison on the 3rd, and 109 people were transferred to southern Seoul prison the previous day. It is expected that correctional authorities will decide whether to transfer further according to the results of the sixth inspection.
An official from the Ministry of Justice said, “We have been carrying out the transfer to completely separate close contacts and lower the accommodation density,” he said.
As of 7 a.m. on that day, a total of 1,121 confirmed coronaviruses at correctional facilities nationwide. Five people, including four inmates at the Seoul detention center and one in the Cheonan prison, were confirmed as confirmed, an increase of five from the previous day. The Ministry of Justice added that those who were diagnosed as confirmed have nothing to do with the Eastern Detention Center.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Justice said that the results of a thorough investigation of the inmates in the Jeju prison were all negative. Employees are currently being counted.
