Walt Disney Online Video Service (OTT)’Disney Plus’ starts domestic service in the second half of the year. Korean original drama contents will also be released at the same time.

Luke Kang, president of Walt Disney’s Asia-Pacific region, said, “As announced at last year’s’Disney Investor Day’, we plan to start service in Korea this year.

Disney plans to produce content optimized for Korean users based on the know-how it has accumulated since entering Korea in 1992, customer demand, and big data.

President Kang said, “Korea is an important market not only for the existing Disney business such as broadcasting, movies, and channels, but also for the OTT business. “The finalization of the Korean original content production plan is because Korean partners and users have great significance to Disney.”

President Kang said, “Korean users tend to like Korean content very much regardless of genre, such as movies, dramas, entertainment, and games.” It will meet service expectations.”

Disney Korea started preparation work for the production of Korean original content with a domestic production company.

It is known that a number of domestic production companies such as Keyeast and Next Entertainment World (NEW) have expressed their intention to co-produce.

Like Netflix, Disney Plus is expected to provide both a telecommunications company affiliate service and an application (app) service at the same time. Disney is discussing a partnership with the news agency.

President Kang said, “We are considering including direct service (D2C) to customers in order to allow more consumers to use the service easily and conveniently. “We will enter into a partnership with the news agency.”

President Kang plans to actively support the growth of the Korean content market, win-win growth with partners, and advance into the global K-contents based on his experience in filming the Marvel movie’Avengers 2’in Korea when he served as the representative of Disney Korea in 2014.
