The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s expert advisory group expressed the opinion that elderly people 65 years of age or older may be vaccinated with the AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine.

On the 8th, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) chief said, “At the expert advisory meeting held last week, experts gave an opinion that’we can get enough vaccinations when additionally judging data on the UK (about the vaccination)’.”

Based on the results of this consultation, Commissioner Chung said, “We plan to open a vaccination specialist committee (consisting of experts) this week to deliberate on the contents (whether the elderly can vaccination).”

The AZ vaccine has limited vaccination for elderly people in the European Union (EU) due to lack of efficacy data for elderly people during clinical trials. In Korea, vaccination is also restricted to those over 65 years of age.

Recently, as the effectiveness of prevention has been confirmed for elderly people who have actually received the vaccine in the UK, countries in Europe are gradually lifting restrictions on vaccination or reducing the age limit.
