[에너지경제신문 김세찬 기자] Gangnam-gu Commissioner Jeong Soon-gyun announced on the 25th that he had officially requested an interview with Hyundai Motor Chairman Eui-seon Eui-seon along with the stance that Hyundai Motors should be “promoted according to the original plan” regarding the design change of the Global Business Center (GBC) that Hyundai Motors decided to build in Samseong-dong, Seoul.

Mayor Jeong wrote on Facebook that day, “I made an official request for an interview with Hyundai Motor Company Chairman Eui-seon Eui-seon today to urge the promotion of the original plan on the 105th floor.”

“If GBC is completed six years later, it will become the tallest building in Korea and become a landmark in Korea.” “It is expected not only as a landmark building, but also creating 1.25 million new jobs and an economic effect of 268 trillion won. It is a large project that contains the wishes of our Gangnam-gu residents who wish for development.”

The GBC, which was decided to be built on the site of the former KEPCO, is planned to be 569m high, and it will be the tallest building in Korea as planned. Currently, the highest building in Korea, Lotte World Tower in Sincheon-dong, Songpa-gu, has 123 floors and is 555 meters high.

The city of Seoul gave out GBC’s construction permit in November of last year and a certificate of start of construction in May of last year, respectively, and Hyundai Motor Group is currently undertaking construction.

“But since last November, rumors of a design change to 2 buildings on the 70th floor and 3 buildings on the 50th floor have been rumored, and this year, media reports are pouring out that it is being organized into 3 buildings on the 50th floor.” He expressed his feelings of discomfort.

He said, “If you check with Hyundai Motors, it is a position that’the fact of the design change review is correct, but nothing has been reported or confirmed to the chairman.'” He said, “I had a reaction that was’unplanned’ about the design change (Snow) right after the first report in November of last year. Unlike ), Hyundai Motor Company is also making design changes as the default.

“I have doubts about the high-level media play,” said Jeong Gu, regrettable as the mayor of the competent ward.

He emphasized, “Super-sized projects such as GBC should be pursued as faithfully as possible, and if changes are needed, the process should be carried out with confidence and transparency.”
