Director Geum Kang-seon talks about the direction of Lost Arc in 2021

Lost Ark, entering its third year of service, has reached its second heyday.

The blueprint, which was released at the LOA ON conference last year, began in earnest, attracting new and returning users, and the upgraded direction of the southern Berne and the update of the first corps commander Raid Demon Squad Commander’s shot increased satisfaction.

In addition, the trust of Director Geum Kang-seon, who showed active communication and love for games at LOAON, is creating synergy.

In preparation for the update in the first half of the year, we met Kang-Seon Geum, the director of Smilegate RPG, to discuss the direction and operation plan of Lost Arc in 2021.

-The rising trend brought about by quality and reliable operation

“I didn’t expect so many users to enjoy the game after the update. We didn’t set the target number specifically, but I thought it would be good if many users could play only Southern Bern. I am grateful.”

“Southern Bern had a lot to show. From the past, there has been a story about the NPC hitting the’last hit’ of a specific monster when users progressed the story, but they had their own plans. It’s because users have started building up with the idea that it’s just a growth process in the long journey we’ve prepared, and that they don’t deserve to hit the last minute (laughs).”

“I think users have grown up to a level comparable to Esther, and now it is time to become a savior of the world. With the Southern Bern update, I wanted to show you that this is an era where users are the main characters.”

With the effect of the update, new and returning users gathered, revealing a regrettable feeling for the guide problem.

“There are areas where the guide was insufficient. In the meantime, I tried several attempts to make a guide, but it was not effective. To complement this, we are preparing the adventurer’s path. The Adventurer’s Path allows users to experience the parts they must learn, and even meet the narrative that summarizes the story.”

“However, if we update it right away, we have put it off because situations that need improvement may be repeated. We have set up a TF to manage new users now, and in the future we will be able to guide beginners with certain features on the adventurer’s path.”

“There is a lot of appreciation to YouTubers and users who share beginner guides and tips in the community. Tears are spinning. He’s doing what we need to do. There are times when users feel like they are the heads of boys and girls. It’s touching, but on the one hand, it’s embarrassing. In the future, I will make sure that users do not suffer.”

It can’t be said to be perfect, but Lost Ark does most of its update plans, which increases satisfaction. In particular, I built a sense of trust by completing most of the updates released at the Lutheran New Year’s Thanksgiving Day.

“The development team has done a lot of work. Because we promised, we did what we had to do physically. Of course, I don’t think we have made an update that will satisfy all of our users. I’m not going to rate it just by looking at the achievements. Still, it would be nice if you could at least consider your efforts to keep what you said. This year’s goal is to improve satisfaction while keeping the promises physically. I think that’s the only way to keep the real promise.”

The meaning of the real game and the operating philosophy of Lost Arc mentioned in LoAon came from the memories of users and the mindset of developers.

“It’s not something I can prescribe, but at least I think it’s too sad that the game only has the value of items, equipment, and goods. I wish there were many moments when I was playing a moving story, music that comes to mind when I think about it late, and when I play games. It’s a game you can remember.”

“I think the attitude of the developer is also important. I wish I could find fun and rewarding in the process of making games myself rather than doing repetitive and meaningless work. Even if the challenge fails, it would be nice if we could think of ourselves as having fun while making it.”

Regarding the reaction of users that they would not play the game without the gold director, “I think it is overcompliment. I hope you never think so. There are so many talented developers without me. Lost Ark was never a game I made myself. I don’t think Lost Ark will lose its value just because I am not a director. Please trust the’Lost Arc Development Team’, not me.”

The addition of Naksa, the change of the terrain, and the Legion Commander’s skills are challenging elements that have not been. Each corps commander is making new attempts, and those challenges seem to have paid off to some extent.”

“The difficulty level always seems to be difficult to adjust. It always deviates from our predictions. In particular, action RPGs have a wide range of predictions as the control gap and numerical part between users are combined. However, I expected a clear party on the first day. In the future, the difficulty of raids will increase.”

He expressed regret and regret for lowering the difficulty of the Legion General Raid with the update on the 20th.

“The numerical problem is that the normal success rate was lower than that of hard. Examine the success rate and change amount of the first day of existing raids and dungeons, how skilled and unskilled users have repeatedly tried for a few days, how skilled they are, the success rate for each section, the success rate of users that fit the recommended level, and the success rate for each average level. I saw it, but it turned out an unusual graph that I had never seen. Mastery was also a big problem. The proficiency is checked for each section, but it was a problem that the users who matched the recommended level did not perform at all.”

“If the updated corps commander was not a shot, but the second corps commander Raid Viakis, the difficulty would have been maintained. This is because even if you can’t clear Viakiss, you can get equipment by clearing the bomb. However, the shot is the first raid, and if you fail to clear it, farming is impossible.”

“If Hellmode was updated together, it would be great, but the development schedule was tight. I’m really sorry for taking the fun of the users. Instead, Hell Mode is going to be a little more refined, making it more difficult than hard to stimulate the desire to challenge. As for the reward, we will give you honor that suits your raid such as hell horse (tentative name) and hell pet (tentative name).”

“I have something to say about Esther. Esther was originally developed as a cutscene. It was really cool back then. However, there was a disadvantage that the tempo of the game was cut off. There were exceptions to being attacked during directing time or taking into account the debuff time. In addition, as the overall effect has increased, the game has become confusing. So I worked at a level that doesn’t bother Esther’s skill, and I have no regrets of direction. We are aware of the need for improvement and we are working on the quality of the production.”

-About the blueprint for the first half of 2021 Lost Arc…

The Legion Commander’s Raid Bomb Update is just the beginning of Lost Ark’s first half blueprint. Starting with the first Genderlock class Gunslinger, bold updates such as a new corps commander raid and class improvement work are scheduled.

“There is something hidden in Viakiss. Users seem to think that Viakiss is the least significant among the 6 Legion Commanders, but we have been hiding their charms for a long time for the ViaKiss Raid. Sooner or later, you will see how attractive Viakiss is.”

“Apart from Viakiss, there are many things that have not been disclosed yet. If the rice cake has been unwrapped for two years, it is now in the process of collecting it. I thought that the song of courage, which I sang so long for good feeling, could impress users. “The Legion Commander update cycle will surely keep its promise by March. As the current item level is tied, I think it is necessary to quickly deliver the enjoyment to users.”

“Actually, the corps commander update cycle is a very unreasonable schedule. Everyone tries to show off different concepts, so there is a hard part. If you play after the updates of Viakiss and Kuksaton, you will feel that they were developed with great care. The completeness is evaluated by users, but the difficulty of development is obviously very high.”

“There are times when we make mistakes and make wrong judgments, but users are catching them. We’re trying to listen as much as possible. As a result, even if a mistake was made, the heart was not. I hope to keep the Lost Arc as far as I can and stay close to many users for a long time.”

“It’s the relationship between the director and the user online, but I hope it’s more than that. It is because I want to cherish the ties that are made with Lost Arc.”

“The goal is to make Lost Arc a game where users can think of Lost Arc a long time later and remember that it was good and fun. In the future, I will continue to approach users with courage, so I hope that users will also come closer with courage.”
